DTS:X has a PRO variant that supports up to 30 speakers and 2 subwoofers. DTS:X can be implemented with any standard speaker configuration, whether 5.1 or 7.1 and unlike Dolby Atmos, it does not require any additional speakers.ĭTS has a free license for movie engineers to implement their technology, where they can control all of the aspects of how the audio will be shaped, which should cover most standard 5.1 and 7.1 setups. DTS:X – Quality And PracticalityĭTS:X is a bit different to Dolby Atmos but it strives to create the same results, an immersive listening experience. Atmos is way heavier on the lower end too but as I use Sennheisers which aren't listed, I can choose an EQ from one of the other pairs of Senns and get something a bit more bassy, but as you say, Atmos has a lot more depth. Dolby Atmos is supported by most streaming services, and it can be found on blu-ray discs as well. Having switched between the two, the Atmos sounds much closer and intense, but the DTS gives you more of a sense of space. For those who are unwilling to add more speakers or drill holes in their ceiling, there are TV sets that support Dolby Atmos, and have speakers which add that vertical layer. One of the benefits of Dolby Atmos is that they added another layer of sound, a vertical one, which is why the extra, top-firing speakers are necessary. Additional speakers are necessary, such as ceiling speakers or soundbars which are aimed at the ceiling. It is meant to be used with surround systems that exceed the traditional five-speaker and one subwoofer setup. Dolby Atmos – High-Quality Audio With Specialized Speakersĭolby Atmos represents the highest offer of sound quality that Dolby Labs offer.
